Some years ago Eelco and I went to Austria to enjoy a hiking holiday there. Walking in the mountains gives a feeling of freedom and is an excellent way to refill yourself with some energy and break your normal routine. For this reasons last April 2012 we decided to go on a similar holiday together. On Wednesday evening 20th. September we drove with our campervan to Grindelwald, Switzerland.

Day 1
As said Wednesday  20th September at 9pm I picked up Eelco in Den Bosch and soon after we hit the road towards Switzerland. Already at the border NL/D we had to make an unplanned detour, but after finally finding the German highway we settled for Karlsruhe and France to eventually reach the Basel border at 5am. We had a quick breakfast at 6am and found out that Switzerland is a terribly expensive country! Ten hours after we had left Den Bosch we finally arrived at our campingspot facing the Eiger Northface at Grindelwald.

It was still early morning, but after driving all night without having a proper sleep, we decided to explore the village by bike. A steep climb brought us ‘downtown’ where we did some shopping for having lunch. When we got back the sun was shining. We grabbed the table and chairs and while sitting outside in the sun having food with an awesome view of the Eiger. It was already worth the drive.
We both felt well and not too tired, so we even did a 4 hour walk to Bussalp, having a well deserved pint at the top.

The way back took long and was tiring for feet and knees, but eventually we got back to the van and after having our cooked dinner we quickly fell asleep.
