Hasta la victoria siempre
Cuba is an island and therefore not actually on our Panamericana route. However, Cuba has been on our travel wish list for a very long time and we have never been closer to Cuba than in Mexico. We therefore decided to give our car a rest and fly from Cancun to Havana. This side trip was also a great opportunity to meet up with Romy’s parents and so the four of us took a rental car and explored part of this special country for a fortnight.
Cuba is still a myth and as former citizens of the GDR, we were particularly curious to see what would await us here. A journey back in time to communism? How much of it is left 7 years after Fidel Castro’s death? Of course, Cuba stands for much more – Salsa and Cuba Libre, great landscapes and beaches. In short, we were very much looking forward to country number 4 on this trip, this time without our home on wheels.
